BFP ACCORDS VIGAN CITY WITH NATIONAL CITATION

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) National Command cited the City of Vigan for its support and contributions to the local BFP Unit. The award was presented during the 21st BFP Recognition Day at Camp Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City on October 30, 2012. Mayor Eva Marie S. Medina was represented by SPM George J. Villanueva in the ceremony. He was accompanied by Vigan Fire Marshal Floro Obrero. C/Supt. Ruben F Bearis Jr., DSC handed the award for the Best Local Government Unit of Region 1. The recognition was based on the strong partnership of the LGU and the BFP- Vigan which led to the successful implementation of the latter’s plans and programs. RANIAG FESTIVAL... NOW ON ITS 3 YEAR

In Vigan, there is more to Halloween and All Saints/ All Souls Days. The Bigueños have RANIAG, the Vigan Twilight Festival.
Raniag, which means light in the Iloko dialect, is held on the last week of October up to the first week of November as a way of remembering the departed Bigueños. During the Raniag Twilight Festival, The people of Vigan and visitors do not only pray for the souls of their dead loved ones but also thank the good Lord God for the gift of life. Other activities symbolizing love and missing the departed are held; and most of all it is a grand time like Christmas and the Semana Santa for reunions.
This year the Festival kicked off on October 26 with the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Vigan Conservation Center which coincided with the 75th Birth Anniversary of the late Evaristo “Titong” Singson, Governor of Ilocos Sur and Mayor of Vigan.

VIGAN CITY GOV’T & PMFTC JOIN HANDS IN TREE PLANTING

The City Government of Vigan, the PMFTC and the Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation joined forces for an environmental cause. City officials and employees led by City Mayor Eva Marie S. Medina and the officials and employees of the PMFTC headed by its Plant Manager Petronilo Alcasid III embarked on a tree planting activity at the Raois Watershed Tree Park last October 12, 2012.
More than four hundred seedlings of Mahogany and Talisay trees were planted in the lot owned by the city government to protect and conserve the water source of the city and its neighboring towns.
Mayor Medina stressed the significance of caring for our natural heritage and enjoins everybody to actively take part in all the environmental programs of the city. COOPERATIVE MONTH CELEBRATED IN VIGAN

Vigan celebrated Cooperative Month with this year’s theme: “KOOPERATIBA PAGYAMANIN, MGA KASAPI PARAMIHIN.” The opening salvo was the Flag Raising Ceremony and a motorcade around Vigan. It actively participated in by all primary cooperatives of Vigan City. On October 20-21, a seminar on “Leadership and Values Reorientation” was held at the Fatima (Vigan) Multi-Purpose Cooperative facilitated by Ms. Sally Trińanes of Cooperative Development Authority.

Pursuant to Art. 44, of R.A. 9520 and Rule 7 Section 5 of its Implementing Rules and Regulations and as prescribed under CDA Standard Training Curricula for cooperatives, all officers of cooperatives shall undergo nine seminars and trainings depending on the positions they are holding. There are common courses the officers and members shall undergo but there are also courses purposely for board members, treasurers, secretaries, managers, bookkeepers and the other committee members.

Finishing Course for Call Center Agents Held at VSTI

Vigan Skills Training Institute, October 2012. In its continuous effort to provide employment for its constituents, the city government through its training arm, the Vigan Skills Training Institute, launched another employment generating course, the TESDA Accredited Finishing Course for Call center Agents, NCII. Running for 2 weeks, graduates will be provided with skills that will enable them to work in Business Process Outsourcing Companies (BPO).

Considered as the sunshine industry of the world, the ICT-BPO sector continues to attract job applicants from all academic disciplines. Outsourcing is now resorted to by all countries who want to save on labor costs. In this global trend, the Philippines have outranked India as the outsourcing capital of the world.
