“The most delicious festival” of Vigan was highlighted through the Longganisa Cookfest Showdown on January 22nd, 2013 – the Vigan City Day. The corner streets of Burgos and Quezon Avenue filled the air with the aroma Vigan Longganisa as aspiring cooks and chefs compete for the this year’s winner in the Longganisa Cookfest Showdown. This was divided in to two categories, the student and the hotel/restaurant category; and the aim – to infuse the Vigan Longganisa to other recipes.
The participants were tasked to make 4 recipes: appetizer, soup, main dish and the dessert incorporating the star of the festival – the Vigan Longganisa. This year, Category A was bagged by STI Vigan Campus (Team 1) led by Kenneth dela Cuadra, Reuben Calaycay and Jonathan Paet, followed by Ericson Cardenas, Jonebeb Borja and Mark Noe Lumakim of Ilocos Sur Community College and 3rd placers, Marvylou Pascua, Francis Pacubas and Rhumalaine Filarca of STI Vigan Campus (Team 2).
In Category B, the defending champion, NSCC Hotel of Caoayan was awarded first place who nailed the scores of the judges headed by Ms. Toni Carag of Playa Tropical with Vegetable Salad con Longganisa and Graham Cake with Sweetened Longganisa recipe; followed by a new establishment, Sono Contento Resto Bar who boasted with their version of Longganisa Stuffed Aubergines with Spicy Tomato Salsa and Longganisa Watermelon Soup ; and Hotel Salcedo de Vigan/Bistro Amarillo who cooked Hot and Sour Longganisa Soup and Longganisa Tempura. All categories received a cash prize of P7,000.00, P5,000.00 and P3,000.00 and trophies for 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place respectively. Non winners were given P1,500.00 and certificates.
